ABOUT
Hello — I build eyes for robots.
I recently completed my Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in the FASER Lab at Virginia Tech, advised by Dr. Erik Komendera. My dissertation — Deep Lunar Rock Assessment with Vision and Vibration — teaches robots to detect, reconstruct, and physically assess rocks on the lunar surface, so autonomous machines can clear and prepare construction sites before humans ever arrive.
Across 6+ years of robotics work I've built manipulators, mobile platforms, end-effectors, and 6-axis additive-manufacturing systems for NASA and industry programs — while developing the RGB-D reconstruction, point-cloud processing, and neural-network methods that let those systems understand what they see.

Experience
AUG 2020 — PRESENT
Graduate Research Assistant
FASER LAB · VIRGINIA TECH
- Designed and built a high-payload mobile robot — a 6-DOF arm on a mecanum-wheeled base.
- Built a foldable robotic crane with a 7 m reach, adapted from NASA Langley's LSMS, for large-scale in-space-assembly testing.
- Developed the vision + vibration rock-assessment pipeline behind my dissertation — see Projects.
AUG 2025 — PRESENT
Robotics / Mechanical Engineer — Digital-Twin Robotic Additive Manufacturing
FASER LAB · NSF AWARD NO. 2428288
- Characterized vibration and stability of a 6-axis industrial arm during robotic 3D printing to pinpoint dynamics that degrade print quality.
- Built a digital-twin spring-mass model predicting pose-dependent stiffness across the workspace; now developing pose optimization to minimize vibration during deposition.
JAN 2024 — MAY 2025
Graduate Teaching Assistant
DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING · VIRGINIA TECH
- Taught the Controls lab and supported Vibrations and Dynamics over three semesters.
AUG — DEC 2023
Robotics / Computer Vision Engineer — Intelligent Sensing for Hybrid WAAM
DREAMS LAB · VIRGINIA TECH · ONR-SPONSORED
- Captured high-accuracy point-cloud scans of wire-arc AM parts with custom stereo camera arrays to visualize geometric defects.
- Trained an instance-segmentation model to localize defects and generated corrective G-code repair toolpaths sized to bead width.

MELD MANUFACTURING · VIA FASER LAB
- Designed a 6-DOF metal additive-manufacturing system for in-field train-track repair — see Projects.
AUG 2020 — MAY 2023
Robotics / Mechanical Engineer — Assembler Project
NASA LANGLEY RESEARCH CENTER · VIA FASER LAB
- Contributed to the mechanical design of the Assembler — a reconfigurable manipulator of serial Stewart-platform modules.
- Designed and built lightweight, modular end-effectors to actuate 6 m tri-trusses in a lunar habitat concept.
JUN — AUG 2018
Mechanical Engineer Intern
TINAVI MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY · BEIJING, CHINA
- Designed Polaris optical tracking tools and a precision end-effector for controlled tissue removal in robot-assisted hip-replacement surgery.
